Regarding professional development: PD is one of the reasons I haven't "burned out." Regardless of the time, place, or facilitators, I have found PD meetings refreshing and inspiring. True, I've been to a few classes that were "repeats" or boring, etc....but for the most part, the training sessions have been helpful. In addition, it's very worthwhile to meet with other teachers to share ideas, successes, and frustrations... Tennessee, in my opinion, has a fabulous PD system... I think professional dev needs vary sometimes according to the location, demographics, (ex. urban area vs. rural) etc.... and for that reason, I think PD decisions are best left to local/state entities rather than a "one-size-fits-all" model. Just an opinion...
