A new Committee on Quality Measures for Alternative Assessments of Adult Literacy met October 27 at the National Academy of Sciences to begin its review of alternative assessments measuring and reporting learning gains in adult education. The project, cosponsored by OVAE and NIFL, will analyze current state efforts to develop performance-based assessments on broadened content and work/life skills standards (such as Equipped for the Future). A report, including a summary of the discussion and commissioned papers, is expected for our State Directors' meeting here in February. (from OVAE Thursday Notes, 11/8/01)
