Hello,

I'm new on this list and I'm from New Zealand. The government here is
beginning to want to improve literacy. They are looking toward developing a
national assessment system for literacy as well as improving teacher
training etc.

I'm just curious about your perspective, given that the US is a little
further down the track on the literacy campaign than we are, is there
anything that you wished you'd done differently in terms of focus, training
or developing the assessment system. What kind of advice would you give a
country if it were just starting out on its quest to improve literacy based
on mistakes or successes you've made?

thanks,
Catherine
