Dear List Members,

Thank you for your thoughtful responses. I hope the exchange has stimulated more thinking about how we can make the most of the expertise we find here. We are a diverse group: teachers, administrators, policy-makers and researchers. We represent local, national and international programs, concerns and issues. We have colleagues across the country as well as in the UK and Canada.

Here is what you said about why you joined the list:
1) to exchange practices
2) to find out what is happening with assessment and accountability in states other than our own
3) to find out what practitioners are doing in the classroom to meet local and national requirements
4) to share assessment instruments - especially those that measure achievements not measrued by standardized tests
5) to find out how colleagues are coping with testing
6) to add resources to LINCS special collections
7) to discuss how we can address the disparity in the ability of standardized measures to assess extremely diverse adult populations ranging from those who lack native language literacy to those who are highly educated but lack oral fluency in English
8) to find information on assessment based on research

I will post a question around one of the above to stimulate more dialogue. I welcome your feedback. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Diane Rosenthal
