For my assessment class at the University while studying to receive the ESOL Endorsement in Florida, our class was asked to study and read a book called New Ways of Classroom Assessment, J.D. Brown is the Editor, published by TESOL. This book can be used for all language levels in ESOL. The chapters deal with portfolios, self assessment procedures, peer assessments, alternative groupings for assessment, evaluating oral presentations, creating assessment procedures, the use of videos to assess, evaluation of curricula , developing scoring procedures to assess, etc. It has excellent ideas and certainly presents many kinds of assessments that can be used in any subject matter. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Dirose7@aol.com> To: "Multiple recipients of list" <nifl-assessment@literacy.nifl.gov> Sent: Tuesday, June 10, 2003 11:43 PM Subject: [NIFL-ASSESSMENT:285] What alternative assessments do you use? > Dear List Members, > > Based on the responses to the question, Why did I join? many of you are interested in alternative assessments. > > What alternative assessments are you using? > How are you integrating them along with standarized tests? > > If you can write what they are and how you are using them I will again summarize the responses and compile resources > > Thanks for the energy! > > Best, > Diane Rosenthal > NIFL Assessment List Moderator > Exeuctive Director > LVSG > (203)324-5214
