At the time of intake, if an ESL student cannot fill out the necessary information to give you all the demographics needed - That is assessment enough. Let's not assess our students in excess or they will leave. Our policy is to do the formal assessment as soon as possible. Some programs also have students participate in an orientation prior to actually enrolling in the program. One of the activities includes a writing sample. They are asked to write a page on "why they want to enroll in adult education".
