Hi Ajit and everyone,

Sorry I have not been very present this week - many apologies.

Yes, I know that CT has been using CASAS for years now. How is that
going? I'm wondering particularly about programs that are not
necessarily competency-based, like basic reading programs.

I've heard that CASAS is really helpful with workplace programs - can
anyone comment on that at all?

How about CASAS and learning disabilities? Any connections there?

Finally, I remember reading from some folks that their states may
combine several different approaches to teaching and testing, still
aligning with the nrs requirements. Can anyone describe that a little
for us? Does anyone mix up norm-referenced and criterion-referenced
approaches - and what is that like? Is it confusing?

Thanks!

Greetings everyone.

Connecticut has been using a competency based curriculum, assessment,
and
instructional framework based on the CASAS system since the late 80s. I

Subject: [NIFL-ASSESSMENT:798] Upcoming Discussions on the List

Hi everyone,

I wanted to remind folks that Monday (Dec. 6-10) begins our discussion
about CASAS with guest Jane Eguez, Director of Development and Certified
Trainer.

Recommended preparations for this discussion:

   1. Check out the CASAS homepage at www.casas.org and click on "About
CASAS" in the left toolbar to get some background information.
   2. Click on "Products and Services" to view a Q&A that discusses how
the CASAS system can be useful in a variety of contexts.
   3. Would CASAS users identify themselves, their state, and their
program. Let us know if you are a classroom teacher, a program
administrator, or another type of ABE worker.

During the week of December 13-17, our guest will be April Zenisky,
Director of Computer-Based Testing Initiatives, Center for Educational
Assessment, University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The topic will be
Test Development and Administration.

Scores
April Zenisky, Lisa Keller, Stephen G. Sireci
UMass Amherst
http://sabes.org/resources/adventures/vol16/16zenisky.htm
(an overview of validity, reliability, interpreting scale scores,
