Dear List Members,

I have been looking back at the topics that have been discussed on the
Assessment List since last September. I thought you might also find it
interesting so see some of what we focused on during that time. I'm
hoping that it will lead us to further discussions of these areas, and
that it will help us identify areas that we have not touched on yet and
need to.

The larger discussions included:

*	computer-based assessment, especially as it relates to job and
employment education
*	number of recommended hours before re-test; several
representatives from the test developers responded directly in this
discussion
*	reading theory and practice
*	grade level and ABE: use of GLEs versus scale scores
*	family literacy
*	spelling
*	voice in writing
*	using rubrics
*	assessing teachers
*	use of test scores
*	Equipped for the Future (Guest Discussion)
*	Learning Disabilities in Assessment (Guest Discussion)
*	CASAS (Guest Discussion)
*	Test Administration and Construction (Guest Discussion)
*	REEP Writing Assessment and using rubrics (Guest Discussion)
*	NAAL (Guest Discussion)
*	NRS (Guest Discussion)
*	ARCS (Guest Discussion)

I have questions for you:

Which topics should we pursue to a further degree? Do you have
suggestions for such a focus?

What topics should we discuss in future? Do you have suggestions of
topics you wish to cover?

I would like to have a summer discussion on the tools/processes that you
have developed or that you use in your classrooms on a daily basis.
I'm thinking we can perhaps collect some of your activities and ideas
using a template. We can share these and discuss them. Let's not limit
our thinking in terms of tests - let's hear about how you know what your
student needs on a day to day basis, regardless of what that looks like.

What do you think?

Thanks,
marie cora
