Announcing a Request for Proposals for a Research Project to Identify Salient
Impacts of Literacy Instruction on Adult Students' Lives.

The Literacy Assistance Center (LAC), under a contract with the New York City
Mayor's Office of Adult Literacy (MOAL) and the New York State Education
Department (SED), seeks an Educational Researcher with a primary focus in
Adult Education as principal investigator in a project to identify salient
impacts on students' lives which result from their participation in adult
education programs. The project will identify the changes in students' lives
which result from their participation in adult literacy programs, and
determine which components of literacy programs have the most significant
impact on students' lives. Research will be conducted with students and
staff of the New York City Adult Literacy Initiative (NYCALI). The project
will commence in January, 1996 and be completed by June 28, 1996, and is
budgeted for $25,000. The deadline for proposal submissions is December 18,
1995. For a copy of the RFP, or further information, contact: Douglas
Tyler, Literacy Assistance Center, 212-803-3328. E-mail address:
