Hi!
I've really enjoyed following this list since joining a few months ago
and now I guess it's my turn at self-introduction. I've been teaching
adult basic ed, high school equivalency and ESL for years (and years!)
and can't get it out of my blood. My primary interest is in finding ways
to make effective use of affordable technology in the classroom. I'm
especially interested in the uses of short video segments - either home-

made or recorded from other sources - for speaking (ESL) or writing.
Closed-captions are another of my favorites. Short programs like CNN's
"Science Technology Week" are captioned and make excellent content for
the international students I teach at Penn College of Technology in
Williamsport, Pennsylvania (USA). Did you know that captions can be
downloaded into a computer file directly from video tape using an
inexpensive decoder? These tools do not have to be intimidating. They

add so much to the interest of instructional materials.
It's a pleasure to meet all of you. I hope your holidays are happy.
