The advantage of taking courses within one of the certificate programs, even if you do not plan to complete the certificate, is that students get a transcript showing that they took and passed a course. It is also possible to take some of these courses for undergraduate credit. Neither certificate program (Teaching Adult Literacy-- 9 courses for a total of 15 semester hours-- and English Language Teaching--10 courses for a total of 18 semester hours) is completely on line as yet, but we are working toward that goal.
