     About the Organization
Oregon Literacy was founded over 30 years ago as a non-profit organization
dedicated to promoting free tutoring for adult learners. Our primary focus
is to provide advice and technical support to local and statewide literacy
efforts. We also offer information and referral services to organizations,
volunteers and students. Oregon Literacy is based in Portland and
maintains collaborative relationships with affiliated literacy groups
     throughout the state.

     Job Description
The Executive Director's primary role is to work with the Board of
Directors to translate the organization's mission and Oregon's needs into
effective programs that leverage the expertise and resources of the state's
literacy community. In this capacity you will lead public relations
efforts to raise the visibility of both literacy and the organization. An
integral part of this job is enhancing and developing relationships with a
range of public, non-profit, and business entities. You will also take an
active role in fundraising and grant writing. The Executive Director
reports to the Board and manages the day-to-day operations of Oregon
Literacy including supervision of a small staff. Salary and benefits
     negotiable. Some in-state travel required.

     Qualifications
The ideal candidate will combine a passion for literacy with a record of
articulating and achieving challenging goals. You must demonstrate an
ability to make partnerships successful while communicating clearly with a
diverse set of stakeholders. Oregon Literacy also requires a leader with
the fiscal savvy to manage within a limited budget as well as the
development skills necessary to increase our base of support.
