There's a book called Teen Scene, publshed by Linmore and available through
Alta or Delta which has short stories for teenagers learning to read. It
has very structured exercises which kids can work on individually while you
work with others. It's similar to the adult books published by the same
company. For slightly higher readers, Sandra Heyer's Easy True Stories,
True Stories in the News, etc work well with both teenagers and adults (one
of the few things I've seen that works for both). I think it's because
they are real stories. There is also a textbook for middle school kids
called The Junior Files (from Alta Publishers/ book sellers) which is
worth looking at. Abbie Tom
