"Sidewalk Cafe for Library Literacy Professionals"

 INVITATION

Please join Dale Lipschultz, an adult literacy professional, as she
serves as the first of several expert moderators for the American
Library Association's Adult Literacy Library Initiative discussion
list, from

The topic of the first Sidewalk Cafe is "Library Integration," a
discussion of the degree of integration of library literacy programs
into the overall library structure.

 DISCUSSION FORMAT

Each month a selected moderator will be invited to share their
expertise with list subscribers by making an initial statement to
guide the discussion, and responding to questions during that week.
Announcements of the discussion will be posted each month on the
"Literacy in
Libraries Across America" home page at http://www.ala.org/literacy.

To subscribe to the list, send a message to: listproc@ala1.ala.org,
write
[subscribe] in the subject, and write [subscribe library-lit]
[first name and last name] in the message.

DISCUSSION MODERATOR, December 7-11, 1998

Dale Lipschultz is a Senior Program Associate with the Illinois
Literacy Resource Development Center (ILRDC). For the past two years,
Dale has worked extensively with the 13 library literacy programs in
the Literacy In Libraries Across America (LILAA) Initiative,
providing technical assistance in the areas of learner assessment,
program evaluation, curriculum development, tutor training, staff
development and strategic planning.

During this same period, Dale worked closely with the American
Library Association and the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund to
develop links between library literacy programs, technical assistance
providers and ALA. Dale's background includes practitioner experience
and academic training in children's literacy development, family
literacy programming, adult learning and the emerging field of
library literacy.
