"Sidewalk Cafe for Library Literacy Professionals" INVITATION Please join Dale Lipschultz, an adult literacy professional, as she serves as the first of several expert moderators for the American Library Association's Adult Literacy Library Initiative discussion list, from Monday, December 7, through Friday, December 11, 1998. The topic of the first Sidewalk Cafe is "Library Integration," a discussion of the degree of integration of library literacy programs into the overall library structure. DISCUSSION FORMAT Each month a selected moderator will be invited to share their expertise with list subscribers by making an initial statement to guide the discussion, and responding to questions during that week. Announcements of the discussion will be posted each month on the "Literacy in Libraries Across America" home page at http://www.ala.org/literacy. DISCUSSION MODERATOR, December 7-11, 1998 Dale Lipschultz is a Senior Program Associate with the Illinois Literacy Resource Development Center (ILRDC). For the past two years, Dale has worked extensively with the 13 library literacy programs in the Literacy In Libraries Across America (LILAA) Initiative, providing technical assistance in the areas of learner assessment, program evaluation, curriculum development, tutor training, staff development and strategic planning. During this same period, Dale worked closely with the American Library Association and the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund to develop links between library literacy programs, technical assistance providers and ALA. Dale's background includes practitioner experience and academic training in children's literacy development, family literacy programming, adult learning and the emerging field of library literacy. ABOUT THE DISCUSSION LIST > The list is owned by the ALA Office for Literacy and Outreach Services, as an outreach of its three-year, $4 million initiative, Literacy in Libraries Across America (LILAA), funded by the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund.
