I have long been a teacher and program administrator of programs for
refugees and immigrants. My most recent, most intense experience has
been with refugees. Therefore, I could tell all of you much about
refugee programs, refugee needs, and especially about that issue of
funding (in this case, for refugees) that affects the character and the
structure of all our programs.

I have been asked to fill in for someone else at a conference for
directors and other family literacy staff. This is not my field. Even
though I am to speak on "best practices or the components of any
excellent ESL program, I still feel a need to know the character and
climate of family literacy and family literacy programs today.

What could you say to tell me of your students' needs, of your program
needs?
What are the greatest difficulties?
What are the challenges for your students and your programs today? in
terms of funding? in other significant terms?
How do you view incorporating workplace skills into your curriculum?
What are the rewards of family literacy--for the students, and for
staff?

If I am not asking the right questions, I am open to what anyone would
like to tell me about their programs, about their students.

Thanks
