Hope the following info is helpful regarding the structure of ESL classes at
Albuquerque TVI Community College:
1. Our lowest level ESL course is called Beginning Literacy. All the
classes in the curriculum meet twice a week, two hours each session for a
total of 4 hours per week.
2. We are on a trimester system, classes run every semester for 14 weeks in
Fall and Spring and 12 weeks in summer.
3. Students can attend as many days as they want provided they follow
registration rules (see below)
4. Registration rules:
During the first two weeks of enrollment, students can register for only
one class at their level; they can take as many multi-level classes in the
community as is possible. After the first two weeks of enrollment they may
add as many classes at their level as they want (provided the class(es) are
not full.
5. We use a variety of texts, I can send you course outlines outlining texts
and competencies for each course if you'd like.
6. We have an ESL curriculum chair who works with program director and a
project
team on deciding course content and texts .
