NIFL-ESL Colleagues:

On 12/04, Elizabeth Hanson wrote: "Probably ½ of our ABE-ESL students are
academically bound...where does the category of "academically bound" fit into
the EFF framework?...we are wondering how to account for so many of our

can we present ourselves to funders?"

Good questions, Elizabeth! Please consider posting the text of your message
[Academically Bound and ESL Students] to the Equipped for the Future (EFF)
listserv, NIFL-4EFF, where we discuss questions like yours on a regular basis.
As facilitator of the 4EFF discussion group, I'd like to take this
opportunity to share some information about the listserv and some other
available EFF resources.

To subscribe to the NIFL-4EFF listserv go to:
<http://www.nifl.gov/lincs/discussions/discussions.html> From there you can
also explore the NIFL-4EFF archives, which folks find useful for getting
oriented to any list's topics and tempo. In general, the NIFL- 4EFF list aims
to: 1. provide EFF information and resources and 2. to support practitoners
who are using (and interested in using) the EFF standards and framework.
First and foremost, the focus of our list is on practice - using EFF. It's a
good place to lurk if you want to learn more about EFF.

And consider visiting the EFF web site for more info on EFF, e.g., the
standards and framework components; history and background; publications; the
standards development process; perspectives from the field; relevant links.
The EFF web site is at: <http://www.nifl.gov/lincs/collections/eff/eff.html>

Finally, a new publication, the EFF VOICE is now available. The EFF VOICE
will be published at least twice a year to keep everyone updated on the NIFL's
EFF initiative. It outlines what is happening in EFF around the country,
including a good overview of the EFF standards development process and reform
initiative; the latest version of the EFF framework components; and good
graphics. To obtain copies of the EFF VOICE, please call 1-800-228-8813 and
request publication # EX0094P.

Please email any questions about this message directly to me
<rgspacone@aol.com> and not to this list, NIFL-ESL.

Thanks,
Ronna
