English Literacy and Civics Education Demonstration Grants Program Teleconference Teleconference Description: The Office of Vocational and Adult Education in the U.S. Department of Education is initiating a new discretionary grant program to support demonstration projects in English literacy (EL) and civics education. This program will help states and communities provide limited English proficient adults with expanded access to high quality English literacy programs that are linked to civics and life skills instruction. Please fax questions you wish addressed on the teleconference to 202/205-8973, ATTN: EL/Civics Education Teleconference by December 13, 4:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST). Approximately 20-25 three-year grants will be awarded ranging from $180,000 - $350,000. The deadline for submitting grant applications is January 18, 2000. Eligible applicants include postsecondary education institutions and public or private organizations and agencies as well as eligible entities such as a consortium. To assist potential applicants in understanding the purpose and requirements of the new grant program, the Office of Vocational and Adult Education is hosting a satellite teleconference on December 15 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM EST.
