However, I cannot afford NOT to take a few minutes to express my feelings about NIFL-ESL. I want to let everyone on the list know how much it has meant to me to be part of the electronic mix that is this community. And I don't use the "c" word loosely. I feel NIFL-ESL has achieved that status over the almost five years since its inception. It's an unusual community to be sure, in that most of us never meet face to face and are more familiar with our e-mail monikers than real names! Nonetheless, in the push and pull of ideas, the sharing of ideas and energy, the tentative forays and the impassioned opinions, there's a "there" there (to paraphrase Gertrude Stein). I have watched NIFL-ESL grow into a supportive, diverse, vocal, creative---community. I think the word fits! I'm not leaving the list really, I'm just stepping down as (usually moderate) moderator to become a regular contributor and lurker as I move from NCLE to PBS. Thanks to everyone for making this a fun job! See you online! P.S.My colleague, MaryAnn Florez, here at NCLE will be taking over as moderator starting in January. Fran Keenan National Clearinghouse for ESL Literacy Education (NCLE) at the Center for Applied Linguistics http://www.cal.org/ncle is your adult ESL home on the Web.
