The assumptions underlying this comment - that "we" professionals are not from the ghetto (not poor or black?), and that somehow people from the ghetto would not mind being confronted with tasteless jokes (why not?), are more disturbing to me than the joke itself. I won't belabor the point, but one is an immature attempt to shock and the other is a painful reminder of the attitudes we need to continue to examine and address in ourselves as ESL teachers (and human beings).
