Reading aloud to adults does many things - all useful! It should be done at
each class you have - not necessarily for a long time but at least to give
listeners a chance to hear English well read ... and also to help with their
phonemic awareness.

When you read to adults, as with kids, some of whom may be slow learners
and/or compensated learning disabled, have them follow with a copy of the
text so that they get a full multisensory approach: they hear, they see,
they listen attentively, and they can ask questions thereafter.

I know of no documented research but I have done it always - and always with
very good results. Students (adults) begin to "hear" and "know" and
certainly enjoy the sounds and the words of the language -- it has been very
important.
