An ESL teacher from the Indianapolis Public Schools Adult Education Program along with four beginning ESL learners filmed wrap around segments for each episode. The production was filmed at the channel 16 city government TV station and sponsored by the Mayor's office and the Mayor's Latino Task Force. Indy Reads, a volunteer literacy agency, has placed Crossroads print materials in area libraries that are available for circulation or purchase. Each episode plays for one week and at the end of the 26 cycle they will be replayed. There is a listing of all ESL programs in the Indianapolis are at the end of each hour program. We don't have any statistics yet as to how many people are watching but many students in class mention seeing Crossroads on TV. We are also receiving calls from folks after watching on TV who would like to enroll in class. Our goal was to develop a program that would help newcomers learn English at home and encourage Adult English Language Learners to enroll in area programs. Crossroads Cafe Indianapolis is viewed as a link in a total community approach to meeting the needs of our newest citizens.
