I am conducting a survey about the issue of teaching a new language to =
illiterate adult immigrants. The group in focus is immigrants from =
Ethiopia who arrived during the last 10 years in Israel. A high =
percentage of this group is illiterate in their own language, not to =
mention Hebrew. For this reason, among many more, there are many =
difficulties in the process of acquiring the new language.=20

I wondered weather anyone encountered a similar experience, i.e., adult =
immigrants that arrive in the U.S. (or somewhere else) not knowing to =
read and write in their mother tongue. If so, I would highly appreciate =
it if you could share with me your experience or knowledge - what are =
the major problems you encountered with such a population, and what =
methods you found to be the most applicable and successful.=20

Thank you very much,=20

Dr. Michal Tannenbaum
