I received this from a colleague. The question of VESL texts comes up often on
this board, so I thought I'd pass along the information.

| For anyone looking for textbooks for Vocational ESL, the Spring 2001 issue
| of the TESOL Journal has a comparative review of 10 of them. As well as
| short, one-paragraph overviews of each text, they have three charts:
| Chart 1: Activities Included
| Chart 2: Accessories
| Chart 3a & 3b: Business Issues Addressed
|
| Also, I know that Donna had said that TOEFL materials seem to be popular in
| the VE 302 multi-media language lab. In Vol 8, No 4 (Winter 1999) issue of
| the TESOL Journal there is a similar comparative review of TOEFL texts.
| Herbert & Reppen review 13 different TOEFL texts. The trouble is, of
| course, that this is now almost 2 years old, so it's hard to know if it can
| still be considered current, given the fact that publishers have been
| trying to come out with more and more materials oriented toward the
| computer-based TOEFL.
|
| Anyway, if anyone would like copies of either of these articles, just let
| me know.
