The newest issue of Focus on Basics - LITERACY AND HEALTH - is now
available. To view (in either text only or pdf format *just like the
print version) or to order a hard copy visit the NCSALL website:
http://ncsall.gse.harvard.edu (click on "publications" and then
"newest issue of FOB").
This issue explains how and why these the fields of literacy and health
have begun working
together and what directions this 'maturing partnership' should take.
Literacy and health practitioners share stories and experiences with
integrating literacy and health in their adult education programs.
They
report results and impacts on programs, staff and students that go far
beyond helping individuals to maintain good health. The issue also
explores the role of state-level policy and one expert in the field
shares several strategies worth considering when contemplating how to
engage literacy and health issues. Finally, as usual, the "Blackboard"
is full of potential, helpful resources.

Since this issue is of particular relevance to the public health
field,
please consider ordering copies for your friends and colleagues
working
in health (or refer them to the web site). This issue of Focus on
Basics
may help initiate dialogue or continue interactions and work with your
colleagues in the health field. Please help us to further disseminate
this issue to those working in public health. Thanks and enjoy the
issue!
