Sometimes I will rewrite a story so that the content is easier to understand. Political cartoons, opinion pages, letters to the editor, Dear Abby, front page pictures or any pictures for pre reading activities are all good sources.. There are science stories, history lessons, cartoons (critical thinking is excellent or white out the words and have them fill them in with guesses) Magazines, even the popular ones like PEOPLE have short, interesting articles. Movie reviews! Cereal boxes. And singing....... so much punctuation, slang, poetry, history in songs! What a neat way to learn the language !
