different strokes for different folks!
I found that I had been teaching "holistically" and ignoring the
mechanics of phonetics/sound/relationship to print and was doing a
disservice to my students...I strongly resent the snide "Yea
Heather!"and other hurtful comments. I visit my student's homes to
explain things to their parents, volunteer to teach at a local
restaurant because the workers can't make it to the night classes.
Now,I'm sure I'll be accused of being "holier than thou," which I am
not. Just wanted to say that my discussion of phonemes was an honest one
and designed to explain that there are many parts that make a whole, and
in my experience, some of my students benefit from being taught the
"parts."
