Health materials are available from the Department of Health and Human
Services: Agency for Quality research. I have used them for workshops
dealing with health issues for both teachers, students and especially
parents.
The general issue of "health" and all of its implications is very important
to non-English speakers since they are not aware of what it available to
them in this country - it is very different in other countries. Materials
are available in Spanish and in English. I have persuaded principals to
give me time at faculty meeting and PTA's at their meeting. It is also
useful to find an involved parent (with the school- that is) who can call
parents and invite them for an important meeting concerning the health of
their children in their native language - they will come! Be prepared to
become an advocate ... we should be advocates in any case.
