Andy,
When I tried to enter the code you gave it said it was invalid. Can you
check it? The videos look great not only for ESL classes, teacher training
but also for PTA's to promote cross-cultural understanding in schools with
large immigrant populations.

Hi,
I want to pass along a message from Active Voice, a team of media
strategists who put powerful film to work for social change. They have
worked with the makers of the "The New Americans" film series to put
together story-based modules (in the original series, the stories are
interwoven; theses modules are reedited story by story). For those who
haven't seen it, The New Americans series charts the experiences of
immigrant families as they make the transition of living in America and
portrays moving first-person accounts that give a voice to groups that
are often misunderstood or underrepresented as part of the American
population. Each DVD or VHS module contains several stories - each about
twenty minutes in length - and comes with a companion discussion guide
to spur critical thinking and dialogue.

Across the country ESL programs are incorporating The New Americans
video modules in staff training and in the classroom. Michele Sedor,
Associate Coordinator of SABES at Holyoke Community College says: "The
modules fit a need for relevant up-to-date material for those working in
ESOL programs. The visual aspect is extremely important for people with
limited literacy skills". Many use the programs to enhance student
participation in the classroom, as seeing the stories of other
immigrants can inspire students to discuss their own experiences with
the class.

This month, Active Voice is offering adult educators a 20% discount on
the modules. To find out more about the programs, view trailers, or
purchase the films, visit their website at
http://www.activevoice.net/New_Americans.shtml. Please enter the
discount code JR9D6LHT to receive the discount.

ITVS' Community Connections Project has produced free downloadable
guides and activity books for use in classrooms, including one
specifically for adult education programs, available at:
