A great idea for a field trip. Take your students to theater for ESL
students!

Educational Theater of New York will present two dynamic, original plays
for English Language Learners, April 4 - April 8, Monday through Friday
at 6:30 pm. Saturday, April 9 at 12 noon at a lovely 99 seat theater in
the heart of midtown.

'Socrates on Trial,' adapted from Plato's dialogues, takes place in 399
B.C. the day of Socrates trial. The students become the Greek Assembly
and vote on Socrates' guilt or innocence. "My students loved the
interaction the Educational Theater had with them. Imagine - stopping
the play after each scene to ask my ESL students if they understand!
Repeat or continue became a powerful device by which these students can
take command of their experience of learning this rich language." Rania
Khalil, Teacher CUNY, after seeing 'Socrates on Trial'.

'Galileo', a new play, takes place in Italy in the 1600's. From his
meeting with his mistress Marina Gamba to the famous trial before the
inquisition, 'Galileo' gives the students a chance to see this great
man's relationships, his science, and his place in history.

In the website, you can find lesson plans, flyers, and a more detailed
explanation of the plays, along with a few more reviews. Tickets are
only $12; $10 for groups of 20 or more.
