The answer to this question really depends on what you want to do with
it. Where do you want to teach? Who do you want to teach? If you
want to teach in the US, these certificates may or may not be of any
value to you. It all depends on the state and the program. If you
want to teach outside the US, what you are interested in is a program
where you actually might learn something.

But back to the US, I would recommend talking to your state
certification agency or to a university in your area with a teacher
eduication program. They should be able advise you on requirements.
Some universities here offer certificate programs that carry college
credit; those would probably be better for you in the long run.

As for the certificate programs, there are definitely some programs
that are better than others. The label (TESL,TEFL, CELTA, etc) won't
tell you all that much about them, although I know more people who
have been in good CELTA programs than in good TEFL programs.

Good luck! This is a wonderful profession and the more we know about
it, the more we can truly enjoy what we do!
