Contact Cindy Westfall with the Kettering Ohio Full Circle Family Learning
Program (an Even Start project) at 513-296-7180 to learn how fathers were
involved in their teaching house project. A local realty company was persuaded
to make a house needing rehabilitation available to the program. Lessons plans
to teach basic reading, writing, math, etc., in the context of doing the work
were developed. In some cases, fathers became the teachers of the
rehabilitation skills. According to Cindy, attendance among the dads improved.

This is just one of several creative ideas to come out the Kettering program.
This year, they've begun a family literacy program in a union hall. It will be
interesting to see if this location also results in stronger participation among
fathers.
