(RGS) The Wayne County Literacy Cooperative is looking into measuring adult literacy needs (and perhaps other educational needs as well) for the county. It would be helpful if we didnt have to reinvent the wheel. Has anyone performed such a needs assessment? To narrow the definition of what the Wayne Literacy Co-op is trying to measure, it is actually the adult literacy "needs." This can be generalized into the following categories, as discussed so far by the Co-op: 1) How many adults (19+ yrs.) in Wayne County have a reading level of 7th grade or lower? 2) What is the reading-level breakdown of that group? 3) What other, relevant needs are the targeted adults bringing to adult ed programs? The Literacy Co-op is interested in the size and demographics of the population we are NOT reaching - which the gov't. is starting to require that some of our members determine. Anyone with any information related to ths subject, please e-mail the Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County at: LitVolWC@aol.com Thanks for all your time and effort - Kirk:) P.S. Kirk - The Census Bureau has a web site. For all kinds of demographic information: http://www.census.gov/ Ronna Spacone NCFL_RGS@aol.com
