The General Accounting Office (GAO) has just released yet another report of
interest to educators, "School Finance -- Three States' Experiences with Equity
in School Funding."
It looks at recent efforts to eliminate disparities in educational funding --
due mainly to differences in property tax revenue -- between wealthy and poor
districts in Minnesota, Tennessee, and Texas. (For those of you who have read
"Savage Inequalities," by Jonathan Kozol, it may be of special interest.) For a
free copy, call the GAO at 202-512-6000.
