NATICK, MASS., USA -- Dr. Linda Warren announced today, the debut of the JumpStart Family Literacy
Kits. An instructional tool for use in literacy programs, the kits are based on the idea that the best
outcomes in literacy education occur when the whole family is involved. The JumpStart Family Literacy
Corporation expects sales to top $3-million by the year 2000.

Created by a team of educators, expert in the areas of childhood development, adult literacy, multiculturalism
and curriculum design, JumpStart uses an intergenerational approach to motivate both young and adult learners
to excel. Ten activity packs, filled with hundreds of engaging activities to promote parent-child
interaction, and 13 award-winning children's books are included in each JumpStart kit.

"The goal was to produce stimulating, skill-building materials that young children and their parents
could use together to increase the literacy of the family as a whole," Dr. Warren said. "It's so much more
than just a curriculum. JumpStart is a fun and exciting way for young children, adult learners and their
families to learn together.
"The focus on the families is what makes JumpStart unique," the noted educator said. "By supporting
the literacy needs of parents, children and the family as a whole, JumpStart accelerates the learning of all
these learners. It supports learning through a unique blend of concepts and themes that cuts across cultures
and generations."

"But it's more than this," said Wm G. Smith, a Framingham attorney who organized the JumpStart
corporation and now serves as its Vice President and General Manager. "JumpStart proceeds the way humans have
always learned best, not by breaking learning down into discrete compartments, but pursuing knowledge down
whatever trail the learner's curiousity leads her. Here you won't find a science unit separate from all the
other units, or mathematics treated as somehow different from language or the arts."

JumpStart's 'Dream Catcher' activity pack, for example, uses the Native American legend of the dream catcher
to build on the concept of dreams. The 'Dream Catcher' activities include writing stories, drawing,
star-gazing and moon watching.

"It is this notion of learning as a seamless web that gives JumpStart its power," Smith said. "The
JumpStart learner, whether child, parent or the family as a whole, comes to see learning itself as a lifelong
goal."

JumpStart is currently in use in Chapter 1 and EvenStart programs and orders are coming in from around the
country. The company seeks also to serve similar programs in Canada, the UK and British Commonwealth. For
more information on JumpStart or to order kits for your program, send e-mail here or call Dr. Warren or Mr.
Smith at the number given below.
