Hello,

I am writing on behalf of the Adult Numeracy Practitioners
Network (ANPN) in reference to Notice in the Federal Register:
October 23, 1996 (Volume 61, Number 206) announcing the
Application for Adult Learning System Reform and Improvement
Grant: Stage II Collaborative Development of Equipped for
the Future (EFF) Adult Literacy Standards Cooperative Agreements.

The ANPN is interested in contacting prospective applicants who may be
interested in including family math or numeracy constituencies in their
grant application. The ANPN is a national organization of adult education
teachers, researchers, authors, staff developers, and students interested
in adult basic math instruction. We publish a quarterly newsletter, _The
Math Practitioner_ and many of our members participate in regional and
state-wide staff development initiatives. I am the moderator of the
ANPN-sponsored Numeracy list (over 200 on-line members) which connects us
all electronically in an on-going discussion of our practice.

ANPN was one of the eight "Planning Grant Recipients" or projects that
were funded last year to complete Phase 2 of the NIFL "Equipped for the
Future" initiative. Our work was completed this summer and the product of
our efforts, _A Framework for Adult Numeracy Standards: The Mathematical
Skills and Abilities Adults Need to Be Equipped for the Future_ can be
viewed or downloaded from the ANPN Homepage:

	http://www.std.com/ANPN

We would like to stay involved in the continuing EFF initiative. Although
ANPN will not be responding to this RFP, we welcome the opportunity to
work with organizations who are applying. We feel that it is important
that our work to include numeracy in adult literacy programs continue,
especially in the area of family math and family literacy.

For more information on a possible way for ANPN to collaborate or join in
your application, please contact:

	Mary Jane Schmitt, ANPN President,
119 Blue Hills Parkway, Milton, MA 02186
	or e-mail to: mschmitt@doe.mass.edu

Thanks,

Esther Leonelli, Moderator, Numeracy list (Numeracy@world.std.com)
