I saw the following activity in the November 1996 issue of "Family
Fun," and thought others might enjoy it as much as I did!

"To help my daughters understand good eating habits, I got them
involved in picking out healthy foods. We made a food pyramid out of
a large piece of black mat board. The girls decorated each food group
with cutout pieces of felt in the shape of appropriate foods and
labeled each one with the recommended number of daily servings. They
wrote their initials on felt squares and glued Velcro patches on the
back of each. Then, they glued black Velcro patches to each group in
the pyramid and hung the chart on our kitchen wall. Every time they
eat something, my girls stick their initials onto that food group. At
the end of the day, we can see how they've done - now, even my girls
have noticed that they don't eat enough vegetables."
