We have something in our city called Community Christmas where we collect gifts for the needy. The local hospital purchased sweatshirts (in bulk for $3.50 each) and materials to do those iron on designs where you iron on and then outline in paints. They brought these supplies to our Even Start class and taught the parents how to decorate sweatshirts. The sweatshirts will then be donated to Community Christmas. Of course the hospital made it lots of fun for our moms too by supplying snacks and door prizes. The moms learned a craft, had social interaction time, improved self-esteem, and got a chance to help others. It is nice for our parents to have an opportunity to give of themselves. Even if you couldn't do the sweatshirts maybe you can use the idea of your class providing the labor and a collaborating agency providing supplies to make something for someone in need. Happy Holidays! Jane J. Meyer Even Start Facilitator Canton City School start1@eznets.canton.oh.us
