Someone in Texas (anybody have more details?) is researching post 8th year
Even Start programs.
In Oregon, we have had only one program make it to and through 8th year
status. They wrapped up their 8th year just as voters statewide passed
another killer property tax limitation which meant major cuts to schools and
community colleges (plus local governments) As a result, the program has not
continued in its Even Start model with four components.
Now my challenge, as state coordinator, is to make sure the four 5th year
programs are getting ready now for the inevitable 8th year and help them.
Even Start programs (and others) may find more info on related Even Start
issues on the National Even Start Association home page. use your browser, or
try www.evenstart.org. (I'm giving the address by memory. I hope it's
correct)
