The following is crossposted from the AMERICA READS listserv. A workshop was
conducted in July in Pennsylvania, "America Reads Federal Work-Study
Training." The session was videotaped and available earlier in the year. Due
to many requests the Corporation for National Service is making some available
in a lending library. Information about this video and another publication
about implementing literacy programs is given in the following. Please note,
requests for these items must be made to the addresses given in the post.

Service Counts: Revitalizing Literacy Efforts in American Higher Education:

This publication produced by Campus Compact focuses on the issue of literacy
and how higher education can support it. It works to address the challenges
of initiating or extending literacy programs. This manual includes model
literacy programs, resources for getting started and an issues and ideas
section that identifies and addresses major topics concerning literacy in
America.

For those schools that are Campus Compact members, you will be receiving your
copies of this manual shortly. The Corporation for National Service has also
arranged to distribute a copy per school to the remaining America Reads
colleges. So watch for your institution's copy of this useful publication!!

For more information on this book, contact Campus Compact at
