Children's TYLENOL(R) Expands Safe-Dosing Program With 'Be SAFE' Initiative

Bilingual Program Reaches Parents Through Pharmacists, Day Care Centers,
and Doctors

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- McNeil Consumer Products
Company, the manufacturer of Children's TYLENOL(R) (acetaminophen), announced
the introduction of Be SAFE, a major expansion of its KidCare bilingual
consumer-education program designed to inform parents about the safe use of
children's over-the-counter medications.

The Be SAFE initiative is being conducted in cooperation with the
American Pharmaceutical Association, the national professional society of
pharmacists. The program delivers four important messages through the letters
in the word SAFE:

S See the label for complete instructions.

A Ask a doctor, pharmacist, or other health care professional if you
have questions about the use of the product.

     F Follow the directions carefully.

E Enter the time and amount of each dose given in a medication log for
quick and easy reference.

Be SAFE posters, tip cards, and flyers printed in English and Spanish
will be distributed to 50,000 pharmacists, 20,000 day care centers and
clinics, and 25,000 doctors throughout the country, delivering the safe-dosing
messages to parents of young children.

"This initiative reaches deep into communities across the nation,
advising parents to pay close attention to the instructions for administering
all forms of medications to their children," said McNeil President Brian D.
Perkins.

Perkins said that consumer surveys continue to show that many people do
not take the time to read over-the-counter medication labels.

"As the manufacturer of an extensive line of children's medications, we
have made parent education a priority. Each year, we distribute an estimated
10 million KidCare educational pieces through doctors' offices and pharmacies.
The Be SAFE initiative enables us to reach an even larger population of
parents," said Perkins.

He emphasized that adhering to a few simple guidelines will go a long way
toward minimizing problems related to improper use of medications. Examples
include selecting the proper dosage form (drops, liquids, chewables) for the
child's weight or age, using the measuring device (cup or dropper) that comes
with the product, and calling a doctor, pharmacist, or other health care
professional if parents have questions.

McNeil's KidCare program, begun in 1992, focuses on a wide range of
topics important to parents, such as managing the discomfort associated with
fevers, immunizations, earaches, and teething.

McNeil Consumer Products Company, Fort Washington, Pa., manufactures and
markets Children's TYLENOL (acetaminophen) and Children's Motrin(R)
(ibuprofen). McNeil is a member of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies.

The American Pharmaceutical Association is the first established and
largest professional association of pharmacists in the United States. Its
50,000 members include practicing pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists,
pharmacy students, and others interested in advancing the profession. The
Association is a leader in providing professional information and education
for pharmacists and an advocate for improved health through the provision of
comprehensive pharmaceutical care.

Be SAFE materials are available free of charge to pharmacists, doctors,
and day care centers. To place an order, call 800-472-3923.
