Roxie,

Vermont has two organizations that have developed children's literature
based discussion groups for adults who have low basic literacy skills.
They work closely with the ABE population. The process they use
encourage adults to read with their children and/or to read good
literature themselves.

One is the Vermont Center for the Book which is excellent and does a
great job of giving away books and training volunteers etc. You can talk
to Nick Boke and their address is 256 Haywood Rd, Chester VT 05143;
nboke@vermontbook.org; 802-875-2751.

The other is Vermont Council on the Humanities who also do a great job.
Sorry, I don't have their address or e-mail handy, here's their number:
888-3108. I'm sure anyone there can give you information!

Good Luck,

Jennifer Howard
