I've been teaching ESL for several years with adults, and I have a good
understanding of how to approach the ever-challenging, multi-level class.
This year I've become involved in family literacy, and the term
"multi-level"
has taken on new meaning. I would love to hear some words of wisdom and
keys
to success from those who have worked in family literacy. How should one
approach working with such a diverse group of learners? In the class (10-12
learners) I've been working with, half the class speaks English and half do
not. Included in the English-speaking group are a few with no or low
literacy
in any language and others at the pre-GED or GED level. Among the
non-English
speaking group are a couple with advanced degrees in the native language and
those with no or low literacy; everyone is at the beginning level in
English.

Thank you for any insights you might offer.
