I am a coordinating a family literacy project in a remote rural area of
British Columbia where we are hoping to establish a Homework Club, in
response to a great deal of interest on the part of parents of elementary
school students. We are roughly following a program set out in a
publication of Frontier College, "The Peanut Butter and Jelly Guide to
Organizing a Homework Club", and will encourage students of all ages to use
the service. The "club" will be staffed by volunteers that will be trained
through the literacy project, and we hope to have a "youth liaison"
(through a provincial government program whereby a youth is paid in
post-secondary tuition credit vouchers) to help coordinate it.

Right now we are in the planning stages, are negotiating for space in a
church basement, are looking for our Youth Liaison, and will be collecting
materials, resources and volunteers. As well, we are hoping to obtain a
used computer through a program that offers such equipment to literacy
programs. We hope to be set up and running weekly sessions by spring.

I am very interested in following your project, and would be grateful if
you would stay in touch, either through the listserv or with me directly.
