JOB ANNOUNCEMENTS

Associate Director for Instructional Programs

MISSION:  For 25 years Literacy Partners has been teaching adults to read,
write and do math in tutorial and family literacy programs staffed by
professionals and volunteers.  Currently over 120 volunteer tutors work with
our teachers and 400 students in six different locations in Manhattan.  The
Director of Education is responsible for managing all educational programs of
Literacy Partners, Inc.  The Associate Director for Instructional Programs is
responsible for managing the instructional programs of Literacy Partners, Inc.
The position reports to Director of Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Direct educational programs:

Manage student instructional programs, including tutorial, ABE and family
literacy, new programs, learner assessment, and teaching.  Provide department
fiscal and administrative management.  Provide a mechanism for ongoing staff
dialogue/discussion to advance program plans and strategies.  Supervise
tutorial, ABE and family literacy staff and volunteers.  Organize staff
development activities including guest speakers, meetings dealing with
educational issues and participation in outside workshops and conferences.
Work with staff to improve and maintain quality instruction..  Develop
curriculum and training for staff/tutors for diverse student populations.

2. Participate as management staff:

Keep current with existing research on adult literacy students’ learning and
participate in/conduct research, when appropriate.  Collaborate with the
Director of Development, the Director of Finance and Administration and
program staff to develop funding proposals and reports to public and private
funders.  Prepare reports for the Board of Directors.  Participate in and
manage projects to implement LPI’s long range strategic plan.

QUALIFICATIONS: Primary interest in education with a focus on adult learning
and instructional techniques.  Prior experience with adult literacy education
programs as well as management of staff and skill in building a team to
produce an effective learning community.  Ability to be flexible, test
assumptions, engage in dialogue about instructional models and develop
programs of excellence and substance.  Should possess the ability to write
well and handle fiscal accountability for educational programs.  Person should
work well with a diverse group, including staff, board, students, and
volunteers.  Advanced degree in Education and/or at least a BA plus 6 years of
equivalent additional experience.  Salary competitive, plus excellent
