Our latest is the clothes closet. Students earn Even Start Bucks for attendance and participation in all components. Then once a month we have a garage sale for them to purchase items with their bucks. The items for this sale are donations collected from the teachers on our campus, from the local consignment store which gives us items they can not sell and from the parents themselves. It costs us nothing. The sale last one hour and the parents even help organizing the items and picking up the donations. Some of our most needy families are able to clothe themselves and their children. We even supplied two families with coats for the entire family. We also have a treasure chest with inexpensive items such as pens, pencils, notebook paper, colors, etc. After 10 days of attendance, they may select one item from the box. This is relatively inexpensive and a way to provided much needed school supplies. ---------- > From: Don Seaman <dseaman@TAMU.EDU> > To: FAMLIT-L@TAMU.EDU > Subject: [NIFL-FAMILY:2534] retention incentives > Date: Friday, October 29, 1999 1:28 PM > > >Return-Path: <nifl-family@literacy.nifl.gov> > >Date: Fri, 29 Oct 1999 13:22:11 -0400 (EDT) > >Errors-To: listmgr@literacy.nifl.gov > >Reply-To: nifl-family@literacy.nifl.gov > >Originator: nifl-family@literacy.nifl.gov > >Sender: nifl-family@literacy.nifl.gov > >X-PH: V4.4.7@mail.tamu.edu > >From: "Nancy Sledd" <nsledd@famlit.org> > >To: Multiple recipients of list <nifl-family@literacy.nifl.gov> > >Subject: [NIFL-FAMILY:2534] retention incentives > >X-Listprocessor-Version: 6.0c -- ListProcessor by Anastasios Kotsikonas > > > >How do you keep the parents and children in your family literacy programs? > >What do you do for incentives?
