At the ASPIRE Even Start project we take a slightly different approach. Our philosophy is to get the children excited, working on the expectation that motiviated kids will bring their parents to class. For example, our summer classes run concurrently with the ASPIRE Adventure Camp. It is very hard for a mom or dad not to come to class if their seven year old knows that a daily swimming lesson at a public pool will be missed. This works from the youngest kids to the oldest ones during the school year. Of course, your adult education classes have to be a ton of fun or folks will drop off. My advice is to think FUN. We are of the opinion that the services we are providing should sell themselves. It seems to work (most of the time!). All the best, Jason Sabo Communities In Schools - Central Texas, Inc.
