     Pat,

That's a good idea. I know of a great article touching on the most
important points you will need to cover. Its called, "Identifying and
Supporting Low Literate Parents" by Susan Bohler, Karen Eichenlaub,
Sandra Litteken and Deborah Wallis. It was published in "The Reading
     Teacher" (September, 1996), p. 77-79.

If you don't have access to that journal, email me at
ccollet@library.sos.state.il.us with your fax and I will fax it to
     you.

I am wondering if anyone can give me some ideas about identifying and
referring potential ABE students for a presentation and pamphlet I would like
to present to the K-12 staff within the school district I work.

I have become aware that many (most) K-12 professionals in my district are
unaware that our community has an adult learning center and a family literacy
program. I can easily promote those programs, but I also want to give them
information on what behaviors or comments by families or parents they may
look for that would enable them to identify these potential clients/families
and also, how to make a referral to our ABE program.

Thank you.
