Hi,

I have subscribed to this list serve for the past six months or so because we
have been planning to add Family Literacy to our program. We already do a
lot with children's literacy and I thought that adding the parent component
would really help. Well, several people have heard that we're doing this and
all of a sudden I have three adults who've signed up to learn to read! While
this is wonderful and I'm so thrilled that they've come forward, I don't know
what to do with them! I know a lot about teaching children to read, but very
little about adult literacy. I'm sure there's no easy solution, but does
anyone have any suggestions of someone I might turn to for help? There's not
a LVA site in my area, and there are only a couple of other adult literacy
programs. Both of which are volunteer driven and these new people really
want to be somewhere where they know they'll have the same tutor for a long
period of time. I can offer that, but I need help! Any suggestions would be
appreciated! Are there any programs that I could look into purchasing? Any
suggestions of something that works really well? Is it too juvenile to use
some of our children's literacy materials/activities? By the way, we are
located in Las Vegas, NV and of course, money is an issue!

Thanks in advance...Please feel free to email me directly with any
suggestions...
