I was at that session and I know the data you presented struck a powerful chord with Mr. Goodling. You are absolutely correct about Sharon Darling, she is the unwavering pilot light for family literacy efforts! However, in addition to his conversation with you, Congressman Goodling (with Representatives Rich and Ford from Kentucky) also heard from a number of Even Start family literacy participants in a legislative round table during that same conference. Each of the presenters in that session, from parents, to State Coordinators, to local project directors of Part B, Migrant and Tribal projects, as well as FACE programs emphasized the need for long-term support for Even Start, beyond the original eight-year time frame. All of you who gave those compelling testimonies deserve kudos for the impact you made during that conference! Finally, thanks to Tony Peyton of NCFL who coordinated that special opportunity. I really appreciate Don's posting. It gives us an opportunity to recognize the power of Even Start and Family Literacy to create change!
